Tune a virtual ukulele.

The game's sounds are accurate. If you get stuck, try Google!

Growing up, I lived with my grandparents. My grandpa was Hawaiian, and his favorite thing to do was play ukulele––a 1940s Martin ukulele, which was his most prized possession. I never learned to play the ukulele while I lived with my grandpa, but I did learn how to tune one. In Ukulele Tune, I've replicated my grandpa's ukulele and the experience of tuning it.

The game's visuals went through several iterations over the course of development. I wanted to capture my grandfather's aesthetic in a way that was unique to him. The game's final visuals are based on Windows 95-era Microsoft Solitaire, which my grandpa often played.

Originally, I planned to rotate the ukulele's tuning keys by swapping between five 2D sprites, but this proved complicated to implement––the final version rotates a 3D model instead.

This game was made as a midterm project for Intermediate Game Development at the NYU Game Center. I made every part of the game except the tuning key models and string vibration code, which were both done by my partner, and the sounds.
